As part of the constant quest for innovation, Aliwen Gran Reserva is born, an extension of the line of this renowned brand linked to nature.
Aliwen Gran Reserva Carménère and Cabernet Sauvignon vintage 2021 are the new wines from Viña Undurraga under the Aliwen brand, now in the Gran Reserva category.
Produced by winemaker Carlos Concha, “these are wines with good structure, concentration and power, due to a smaller yield with fewer kilos per hectare. Furthermore, the grapes were harvested early to preserve the freshness and tension in the wines”.
The Carménère comes from the Colchagua Valley and the Cabernet Sauvignon from the Maule Valley, both of which are recognized origins for each of these grape varieties.
Aliwen means sacred tree in Mapudungún, one of the indigenous languages of Chile.
Since 2015 Aliwen has maintained a partnership with Fundación Reforestemos, a non-profit organization, which leads the largest reforestation and ecological restoration campaign in Chile.
“As part of enhancing the success of the Aliwen brand in our different markets, we decided to launch Aliwen Gran Reserva, with a special bottle and label design that alludes to the name of the sacred tree and the alliance we have with Fundación Reforestemos. We want to continue contributing to our reforestation crusade throughout Chile,” states the Assistant Marketing Director at Viña Undurraga, Magdalena Villasante.
Partnership with Fundación Reforestemos
This organization emerged after the great fire that occurred in Torres del Paine National Park in December 2011. Fundación Reforestemos currently operates in 11 regions, more than 79 municipalities and 3 countries and is dedicated to restoring, protecting, and promoting the reforestation of degraded ecosystems, recovering high ecological value areas such as national parks and reserves and generating a culture of awareness of the importance of native trees.
We have been the official vineyard of the Foundation for 8 years, supporting this important mission. Our contribution is also linked to the direct monetary contribution, through the sales of Aliwen bottles around the world, and a direct contribution in native trees, with more than eight thousand units delivered to date.
“We are committed to this partnership as we are going through the deepest and most extensive drought in our country’s history. 72% of Chile’s surface is suffering from drought and 27% is at risk of desertification, which is why reforestation, maintenance and cleaning play a key role in ensuring the survival of our ecosystem. This is our contribution as a brand to offset our impact”, concludes Magdalena Villasante.
