Known as “Pinto” by everyone at the winery, he is undoubtedly one of the people from Undurraga who travel the most within Chile. He is always looking for new grapes, especially for the T.H. line.
Roberto, a viticulturist who works in the Winemaking Department at Viña Undurraga, handles all of the grapes we buy from external growers from purchasing through to processing. He joined the company in 2007.
While training to become a viticulturist, he worked at Viña Carmen as Cellar Manager and Winemaker’s Assistant from 1993 to 1995. That undoubtedly triggered his interest in learning how to make wine and in the importance of ensuring that the grapes are of the best possible quality.
From 1996 to 2000, Roberto was part of Nativa, Chile’s first line of wines made from organic grapes. He was also responsible for the grapes used for the highest-end wines made by Viña Carmen, which were sourced from their own vineyards as well as those of external growers.
Between 2000 and 2001, he worked as Vineyard Manager at Macari Vineyards in New York. From 2002 until the time he joined Viña Undurraga, Roberto advised a number of well-known Chilean wineries, including Odfjell, Antiyal and Huelquén, on organic production.
He appreciates Chile’s geography and enjoys every one of his trips, especially those to the southern regions of the country
Roberto stands out because of his friendliness and empathy. He loves being able to travel, and is happy that his job enables him to travel and to work with people at all levels, from winery owners to the workers who harvest the grapes. For Roberto, each person has an important role in the process.
