This agronomist and oenologist joined the winemaking team at Viña Undurraga in 2011 in order to manage Bodega Quinta de Tilcoco. He spends a great deal of his time in the field preparing the base wines for sparkling wines and the Aliwen line.
The strategic location of the Quinta de Tilcoco winery enables him to constantly move between the Talagante winery and the vineyards in the southern region. He is therefore an important connection between the field and the winemaking process, particularly during harvest.
Álvarez wrote his thesis, which focused on wine marketing, while he was working on the promotion and sale of wines in Chile for well-known wineries such as Casas del Bosque, Grupo San Pedro Tarapacá, and Grupo Concha y Toro. This allowed him to learn more about the industry and gain valuable experience for the work that he is currently doing at Viña Undurraga.
Originally from Santiago, he moved to Chile’s Libertador General Bernardo O’Higgins Region five years ago, after working for important wineries such as Cavas del Valle, Baron Phillipe de Rothschild, and Misiones de Rengo. His goal was to live in a place that was closer to the countryside and nature, where he could develop his second passion after fine wines: motorcycle racing. One of José’s greatest dreams is to tour Chile on his motorcycle, from the Andes to the Pacific Ocean and from north to south.
